Notes regarding Rouvaishyana's  possible Mindwalk -- March, 2006

“3,200 Years of Astronomy”

Stars and constellations appear in cave art going back to prehistoric time, but the first codified attempt to show the stars in recorded history dates from the Phoenicians in 1200 BC.  Explore the beginnings of written star catalogs, star charts, and how our theories,  understandings and beliefs about the universe have changed as a result of the work of scholars and scientists over the centuries.  We will be looking at only a few familiar star patterns—this will be a surprising and sometimes amazing history of the science of astronomy.
